150th Anniversary of Civil War battle at Jenkins Ferry (2014)

Jenkins Ferry, located south of Sheridan, was a Confederate win. Originally scheduled over two days, due to heavy rain storms, the second day of the reenactment was canceled. Reenactors from the 2nd Arkansas Infantry and 2nd Kansas Colored Guard, in full gear and dress braving the Arkansas heat, entertained a large crowd. The reenactment was staged in the open baseball fields of Sheridan, and although there were no live weapons the sounds of shots and cannon fire echoed throughout the hollow. Realistic, period-correct muskets and cannons were not live, however, but used gun powder and percussion caps to give the smoke and feel of live battle. Sutlers and food trucks offered goods while the reenactors set up camps that echoed what would have existed during the Civil War.
